There are several exceptions which concern shippers, diplomats, drivers, pilots, people hlding a valid work permit and “others permitted by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha”.

Starting from tonight, it will no longer be possible for ordinary travellers to enter the country via any entry point – by car, train, bus, ferry or plane.

The State of Emergency is expected to remain in situ until the end of April , 2020.

Yet it will still be possible to connect via Thailand from today till March, 31 provided your stopover does not exceed 24 hours and you hold a health 'fit-to-fly' certificate.

Besides closing the country's borders, the Prime Minister also banned all gatherings, encouraged people over 70 and under 5 years of age to stay home and asked the public to avoid any unnecessary travel.

Provincial borders remain open but check points will be set up for checking health condition of travellers and collecting their personal data for quarantine purposes, should there be such a necessity.
