Paragliding World Cup Asian Tour to be Held in Nepal

Pokhara, Nepal, is set to host the Paragliding World Cup Asian Tour (PWCAT) and the 19th Nepal Open Paragliding Championship. The event is scheduled to take place between February 23–29 this year.

Organized by Nepal Airsport Association together with Nepal Paragliding and Hand gliding Association and supported by the Nepali Government, the event will be coordinated by the International Aeronautical Federation.

The PWCAT in Pokhara is the first one of a set of the three tours to be held in South Asia in 2020. The two remaining tours will take place in two other South Asian countries but the host countries have not yet been confirmed.

During the tours, the qualification of the pilots for the 2021 Paragliding World Cup Tour will be determined. Between five and eight top pilots will be selected during each tour based on points and rankings to enable them to take part in the World Cup.

At the moment, 125 paragliding pilots from 30 countries worldwide have already confirmed their participation in the event.

Nepal expects the PWCAT to attract more international visitors to the country helping to achieve the 2020 target of 2 million international travellers. It will also encourage more paragliding pilots from South Asian countries to join the Paragliding World Cup Tour.
