List of Airlines Than Ceased Operations in 2019

While there have been several announcements of the expected launches of new airlines in 2020 recently, in 2019 as many as 23 airlines worldwide ceased their operations due to various reasons, financial issues and lack of demand being the major factors. 

Here is the list of the carriers we waved our last good-bye in 2019.

1. Germania, a privately owned German airline from Berlin operational since 1978. Fleet size – 36, destinations served – 42.
2.  California Pacific, an American regional airline from Carlsbad, California (2018 / fleet – 4 / destination – 8)
3. Flybmi, a British regional airline (1987 / 17 / 23)
4. Insel Air, a Dutch Caribbean carrier, the national airline of Curaçao (2006 / 3 / 5)
5. Asian Express Airline, a Tajikistani airline based in Dushanbe (2011 / 3 / 5)
6. WOW Air, an Icelandic ultra low-cost carrier (2012 / 10 / 27)
7. Aerolínea de Antioquia, a regional airline from Medellín, Colombia (1987 / 13 / 21)
8. Fly Jamaica Airways, a Jamaican airline from Kingston (2013 / 1 / 4)
9. Air Philip, a short-lived South Korean airline (2018 / 2 / 6)
10. Jet Airways, an Indian international airline based in Mumbai, India. Since 2010, it was the largest commercial passenger airline in India (1993 / 124 / 57)
11. Avianca Brasil, a Brazilian airline based in São Paulo (1998 / 10 / 38)
12. Avianca Argentina, an Argentine airline from Buenos Aires (2017 / 2 / 2)
13. Al Naser Wings Airlines, a small Iraqi airline from Karrada, Baghdad (2009 / 1 / 12)
14. Aigle Azur, a French airline based at Paris Orly Airport (1946 / 11 / 21)
15. XL Airways, a French airline from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (995 / 4 / 17)
16. Thomas Cook Airlines, a British charter and scheduled airline headquartered in Manchester (2000 / 34 / 82)
17. Adria Airways, the flag carrier of Slovenia (1961 / 20 / 23)
18. Peruvian Airlines, a Peruvian airline based in Lima (2009 / 8 / 10)
19. New Gen Airways, a Thai international airline that flew mostly to China (2014 / 11 / 37)
20. Via Airlines, a US domestic regional airline (2014 / 6 / 12)
21. TAM – Transporte Aéreo Militar, an airline from La Paz, Bolivia (1945 / 20 / 2)
22. Taron-Avia, an Armenian airline headquartered in Yerevan (2017 / 3 / 5)
23. Astra Airlines, a Greek regional airline founded by the former CEO of Olympic Aviation (2008 / 4 / 37)

AirAsia opens routes from Shantou and Kaohsiung
