Mumbai to Get a Huge Acquarium

A multi-level huge acquarium similar to the famous Bangkok's Ocean World is SIAM Paragon may soon appear in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister has recently ordered the Tourism Department to mull the possibility of constructing a high-end aquarium in India's largest city.

Mumbai is looking to enlarge its portfolio of tourist attractions. A brand-new cruise terminal has been added recently and the government believes that building a high-level aquarium would further enhance the expereince tourists can get in Mumbai.

It is not yet clear whether a coparison to Bangkok's acquarium, the largest in the Southeast Asia, means the city is also considering to open a Sea Life branded attraction. Sea Life is a well-known chain of commercial sea life-themed acquariums and entertainments. It is owned by a British company Merlin Entertainments. Currently it has over 50 sea life-themed attractions worldwide including three large acquariums in Asia – Sea Life Bangkok, Sea LifeBusan and Sea Life Shanghai.

Earlier, Merlin Entertainments announced their intention to invest £50 million in India between 2015 and 2025. The company has its Indian subsidiary that stated they were in the process of discussion with real estate firms to open Sea Life centres in multiple cities in India. Will Mumbai become the first city of this lot?
