Nepal Recognized as Best Country for Mountaineering Adventures

Nepal won the highest award as the 'Best Country for Mountaineering Adventures' at the ‘Country of the Year Award 2019’ during the Top Asia Corporate Ball organized by Research House of Asia (RHA) Media.

The award was handed over to Nepali Ambassador to Malaysia Uday Raj Pandey by the Deputy Tourism Minister of Malaysia YB Tuan Muhammad Bakhtar bin Wan Chik during a special function that took place at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on November 22, 2019.

The award ceremony was attended by ministers of different departments, members of the royal family, CEOs of reputed organizations, and business tycoons.

Mountaineering in Nepal is promoted by a special body, the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) that is also responsible for safety awareness among climbers and mountaineerers, as well as for encouraging sustainable tourism among those who dare to challenge the Himalayas. The NMA administers climbing permits for 33 mountains in Nepal with altitudes between 5,500 metres and 6,600 metres categorised as trekking peaks. Totally, there are approximately 300 peaks in the country that are open for climbing. Normally, climbing and mountaineering in Nepal requires a permit which is issued either by the NMA or the Monistry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA).
