Red Maple Leaves Season Appoaching in Taiwan

As the red maple leaves season is approaching in Taiwan, Alishan Forest Railway and the Cultural Heritage Office (AFRCHO) have announced the dates of tours to maple tree forests – they will be organised in December.

Tours will take visitors to the most scenic spots in Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, including Xiaoliyuanshan Lookout from where a stunning panorama of colourful autumn maple forests opens.

The tours are scheduled on four Mondays in December – 2, 9, 16, and 23. The number of tickets is limited to 80 for each trip. A special train with interiors decked in cypress timber in the same style used for Japanese royals will serve the tours.

All tours will be guided by a celebrated photographer, Huang Yuan-ming (黃源明), who will conduct a master-class on landscape photograph.

Ticket price will cover the train fare, guide fees, meals and souvenirs and is NT$1,200 (~USD40). Tickets can be purchased 15 days prior to the tour departure date online only.

Alishan National Scenic Area is located in central Taiwan. The Alishan Mountains dominate the area soaring high above green valleys. Tsou aboriginal villages dot the area and are engaged in tea production. A narrow-gauge train, part of the Alishan Forest Railway, runs through high-altitude forests. The Giant Tree Plank Trail boardwalk winds past huge cypress trees, including the fallen Alishan Sacred Tree.
