Dehradun Railway Station Closes for Renovation

Dehradun railway station will close for renovation from November, 10, 2019 till February, 7, 2020 according to the recent announcement of the Indian Railways.

Dehradun is the capital of the North Indian state of Uttarakhand, located at the Himalayan foothills.

Sitting in the Doon Valley between India's two most important rivers, the Ganga and Yamuna, Dehradun is a convenient base for exploring the area rich in nature, sport, cultural and religious attractions. Thanks to the cool climate, hill stations around Dehradun are a popular tourist draw. Some of the most well-known hill stations include Mussoorie, Sahasradhara, Chakrata, and Dakpathar.

According to the local travel agencies, closure of the railway station can potentially affect tourism resulting in severe drop in tourist arrivals in the upcoming winter season.

During the closure period Dehradun trains including Dehradun-New Delhi Shatbadi Express and Nanda Devi Express will originate and terminate in Haridwar, 55 km south of Dehradun, or Najibabad, 100 km south of Dehradun. To get to Dehradun from Haridwar or Najibabad, travellers will need to rely of taxi service.

After renovation, Dehradun railway station will be able to accommodate larger trains with additional coaches.
