The total length of the roads waiting improvement is over 84 km. The project is due to kick off in November and will be implemented step-by-step to minimize inconvenience for the locals and tourists. Technical officers from relevant ministries are cooperating with provincial authorities on the project to ensure the works are carried out effectively and efficiently.
34 streets will get a 25 cm-deep concrete cushion and paved with 7 cm of asphalt. All the works are expected to complete in the course of eight months.
Besides the new pavement, the city will get new parks and pedestrian walkways as stated in the provincial master plan. Drainage pipes, electrical cables, telephone cables, clean water systems and street lighting will be installed along the streets. All the work will be carried out in one package to avoid complaints from citizens about unnecessary disruption. Sihanoukville will become the first place in Cambodia to implement a plan of this kind.
Minister of Public Works and Transport also has announced the ministry will promote the Road Care Mobile App. It will allow people to report infrastructure problems directly to the ministry.
