Tourists from Six More Countries Can Visit Myanmar on VOA

Myanmar expands the list of nationalities eligible for Visa On Arrival on entering the country.

Since this October, passport holders of six countries – Australia, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and Switzerland – are allowed to enter Myanmar with a VOA when travelling through the country's three international airports: Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.

Visas on arrival are issued instantly without and pre-arranged approval. The cost of a VOA is USD50. The expansion of VAO program followed the recent inclusion of Myanmar's Bagan archeological park into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Last year, Myanmar granted a visa-free entry to tourists from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Macau. At the same time, Indian and Chinese nationals from the mainland were included into Visa On Arrival program in a bid to draw to the country more tourists from Asia.

The move brought positive results with an increase of tourists from countries with visa relaxation during 2019 Q2.

“We do hope that these new regulations to ease access to Myanmar, will lead to more travellers from around the world to discover the unique Myanmar culture, nature and most of all the hospitality of the people,” said Ms May Myat Mon Win, Myanmar Tourism Marketing Chairperson.
