Global Hotel Brands Flock to Laos

Tourism boom in Laos makes the country more attractive in the eyes on global hotel brands. Hilton, an international hotel and resort chain, has recently announced their intention to open the first hotel in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

The 188-room hotel is expected to open in 2022 under the 'DoubleTree By Hilton Vientiane' name. It will sit right by the iconic public square, Nam Phou Fountain, in the very heart of the city.

Hilton is not the first international hotel brand that has decided to come to Laos. Earlier, AVANI Hotels & Resorts from Thailand launched their first 53-room hotel in the historic city of Luang Prabang. AVANI operates in 15 countries worldwide and Laos, together with New Zealand and Australia is among the latest additions to the company's portfolio.

InterContinental Hotel Group has been in the Lao market since 2017 when their Crowne Plaza in Vientiane opened. The first Holiday Inn is also on the pipe. Besides, the first 400-room InterContinental hotel is expected to open in 2021, also in Vientiane.

Tourism sector starts playing quite an important role in the country's economy, and the government puts efforts to support the industry. 2018's Visit Laos campaign proved to be a success. It is supported by upgrade and improvement works of many tourist-related facilities across the country. Several airports have been expanded and the road infrastructure is being developed, too.

In 2020 tourism is expected to generate over USD993 million in revenues.
