Taj Mahal Opens for Night Visits

Tourists will soon be able to admire the renowned Taj Mahal under the moonlight: the world famous monument will remein open after sunset. 

Currently, visiting Taj Mahal in the dark is allowed only five nights a month – on the full moon night and on the two nights preceding and following the full moon. The number of visitors during these night sessions was also limited to 400 tourists in 8 batches of 50 people each. 
The rest of the month the monument was opened for visits from 10 am till 6 pm.

Due to the numerous requests and interest from tourists, the Union Tourism and Culture Minister has announced the authorities have decided to allow night visits of Taj Mahal on a daily bases. Note that there is dual pricing policy for visiting Taj Mahal: Indian nationals pay INR 510, foreign nationals are charged INR 750, both adults and kids.

According to the Tourism Ministry, the area around Taj Mahal will be illuminated soon. Infrastructure to support night visits is also on the stage of development right now.  

Taj Mahal is a marble masoleum in Agra commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
