Marriott Expands Presence in Cambodia

Marriott International, an American hospitality company that manages and franchises a broad portfolio of hotels and related lodging facilities worldwide, is planning to further expand its presence in the Kingdom.

Last week, the global hospitality company signed an agreement with The Khom Hotel in Phnom Penh according to which the hotel will become part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The Khom Hotel is scheduled to open in early 2022 and will be the Kingdom’s first Autograph Collection hotel.

Autograph Collection is a collection of independent upper-upscale to luxury hotels within the Marriott International portfolio of brands. Hotels in the Autograph Collection are independently owned and are operated under the Autograph Collection name.

The Khom Hotel will host 130 guests rooms and suites and offer a selection of on-site bar and restaurants, including a themed high-dining restaurant, a casual cafe, a buffet option, and sky bar.

The representatives of Mariott International mentioned that with the increase of number of international travellers to Cambodia and growth of invesment into hospitality sector they see a high potential of Cambodian market for Autograph Collection brand.

Between 2014 and 2018, 959 investment projects worth USD23 billion were approved in Cambodia, and in 2019 alone, 153 projects of an estimated cost of USD5.2 billion received the green light. According to the Ministry of Tourism, Phnom Penh and the coast are the two areas that show the strongest growth in tourist arrivals. In January-June 2019, 2 million overseas travellers visited the capital while the coats welcomed almost 600,000 tourists.
