Pattaya May Host International Airshows Soon

Thailand's U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport may host an International Airshow in future – at least the UK-based Farnborough International recently concluded a feasibility study for the project.

The study covers both the global overview and the regional market potential. Industry feedback and competitive landscape are also taken into account.

As a rule, International airshows take place on a biannual basis. In Asia-Pacific, there are some very important airshows in China as well as the Singapore Airshow with its next edition scheduled for 2020. It is widely regarded as the largest and most important airshow in the region. Another important event is the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) held in Malaysia. Will Pattaya join the club?

Plans are underway to upgrade U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport and establish it as the third main international airport in Thailand. By 2023, the airport will be connected by high speed trains with the country's two other main airports, both in Bangkok: Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi Airports. According to IATA's listing, today Thailand is one of the top ten countries with the highest air traffic volume in the next 20 years.

For Thailand, aviation is one of the priority sectors. The expansion of U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport in the EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) goes in line with the country's Aerotropolis initiative.
