In June, though, the situation looks more optimistic with the number of arrivals growing slowly with about 2,200 tourists entering the country every day compared to 1,300 daily visitors in June.
Representatives of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) revealed their target for this year of 80 percent of the last year's arrivals. India remains Sri Lanka's main hope as the most promising tourist source market. Recently the country was visited by the Indian Premier and this visit sends out a positive message that Sri Lanka is safe place to travel to.
Besides attracting new visitors from abroad, Sri Lanka has also launched several programs to support local tourism operators. The relief packages for tourism industry in Sri Lanka granted earlier by the state will be expanded. The packages are meant to support tourism in the country.
A special working capital loan scheme will be offered for enterprises and individuals who provide tourist services and are engaged in tourism industry. It will be available during a grace period up to 31st March 2020. Debt securities fund will also be expanded.
