Ayutthaya Festival 2019 Is On

The Ayutthaya Festival 2019, an even dedicated to the city's glorious past, started yesterday and will last till May, 26. The five-day celebration takes place within Ayutthaya Historical Park.

The program of the festival traditionally features a variety of performances including puppet theatre show, illumination of the historical ruins, a colourful market with food stalls. The main activities are scheduled for the late afternoon and evening each day.

Today, May, 23, there is a performance of lakhon chatri traditional play at 6.30 pm and a seminar on Architecture of Ayutthaya immediately after.

On Friday, May, 24, a reenactment of royal procession of the Ayutthaya period will take place between Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit and the City Pillar Shrine at 5 pm. A hun lakhon lek puppet show is scheduled for 7 pm followed by a half-an-hour academic discussion on Royal Coronations.

On Saturday, May, 25, phleng song khruang, a traditional musical performance will take place at 6.30 pm. A grandiouse light and sound show will start at 7 pm as a part of the grand opening ceremony.

On the last day of the festival, Sunday, May, 26, visitors will be able to enjoy a lakhon chatri performance and phleng khothan traditional singing at 6.30 with Ayutthaya period 'fashion show' following at 7.30 pm.
