China Eastern Airlines to Launch New Route between China and Korea

China Eastern Airlines, a major Chinese airline operating international, domestic and regional routes headquartered on the grounds of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in Shanghai, will open a new direct route to Korea.

The new route will link Weihai, the easternmost prefecture-level city and a major seaport in the eastern province of Shandong in China, and Daegu, the fourth-largest city in South Korea after Seoul, Busan and Incheon, effective from May, 1.

The new service is scheduled four times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft. Flights from Weihai International Airport will take off at 11.30 am and land in Daegu International Airport at 1.40 pm. The return flight will leave Daegu  at 2.40 pm and arrive to Weihai at 2.50 pm. Daegu is one hour ahead of Weihai, thus flight time in each direction is about one hour 10 minutes.

For China Eastern Airlines, Daegu is the sixth destination in South Korea. The airline already flies to Seoul (both Gimpo and Incheon International airports), Busan in the province of Yeongnam, Gwangju and Muan, both in the province of Honam, Jeju in the namesake province. Starting May, 2, 2019, China Eastern Airlines will also serve Cheongju in the province of Hoseo.
