Monorail Eases Commuter Congestion in Mumbai

A 19.54 km stretch of Mumbai monorail Line 1 Phase II is now opened after an impressive 11 years delay. It starts at Wadala and ends at Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk and puts commuting in the city to a totally new level.

Putting in operation the second phase of the monorail Line 1 makes it possible to cross the whole city easily. While the first phase of Mumbai Monorail connects Chembur to Wadala, the second travels further on from Wadala. For commuters it means that travelling from Chembur to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk now takes only 30 minutes. Monorail operates on a daily bases from 6 am till 10 pm. With all its coaches featuring air-conditioning, it is a convenient and hastle-free way to avoid city thick traffic and heat.

The delay in opening Phase II was due to the fact that the route crosses densely populated areas and affected a number of illegal buildings that needed removal. This new addition to Mumbai public transportation system is going to be a great help for both locals and travellers. The first phase alone is used by about 17 thousand commuters a day. With opening of Phase II this number is expected to reach one hundred travellers a day.
