Royal Express to Offer Rides on Hokkaido in 2020

The Royal Express, an exclusively designed sightseeing Japanese train is coming to Hokkaido. It is operated by Tokyu Dentetsu, one of the major private railway companies in the Tokyo area and is already serving tourists who want to explore Tokyo and its surroundings.

Currently, the Royal Express train offers rides between Yokohama, south of Tokyo and Shimoda, a seaside city on the southeastern Izu peninsula, in Shizuoka Prefecture, renowned for hot springs and picturesque coastline. The ride takes about three hours.

A recent special agreement between Tokyu and Japan Railways Hokkaido gives green light to a new route – from Sapporo to east Hokkaido. In 2020, the Royal Express will be shipped to Hokkaido between late spring and summer for a month-long period to serve the new route and provide travellers with a rare opportunity to tour the  northern island in style.

The Royal Express train is a luxurious train launched in July 2017. The train has eight carriages and offers top-notch service to discerning travellers. Designed by Eiji Mitooka, who also designed the Seven Stars Kyushu sightseeing cruise train, Royal Express is a notable member of Japanese family of luxury sightseeing trains. The train features elegantly upholstered seating, a kids play area, family seats with spacious desks and offers exquisite dining choices and live music performances.
