5 Best Spots for Bird-Watching in India

Bird-watching season in many SA and SEA countries is at its highest. During winter, India gives refuge to numerous species of migratory birds and here are some of the best places for brid-watching there.

Chilika Lake, Odisha
This large brackish water lagoon is home to 165 species of feathered inhabitants out of which 92 species are migratory. Some birds like pintail duck come from as far as Siberia. The best points for bird-watching around Chilika Lake are Nalabana, Birds Island and Mangalajodi.

Nalsarovar Bird Sacntuary, Gujarat
Located west of Ahmedabad, this bird santuary comes alive from October to April. Some of the spicies common in Gujarat during winter months include pelicans, flamingos, crakes, Brahminy ducks, purple moorhen, heron and grebes.

Sundarban National Park, West Bengal
The park is best known thanks to the presence of royal Bengal tigers but 248 species of birds living here make it a prime bird-watching location, too. The world's largest delta formed by River Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna is a perfect habitat for water foul.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Kerala
The santuary sits on the banks of Vembanad Lake and boasts incredibly beautiful scenery. You can easily spot cuckoo, owl, egret and water duck here. Visit from November through February or in August.

Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh
Boasting an astonishing 454 spicies of birds, this wildlife sanctuary lures bird-watching enthusiasts with its amazing biodiversity. A couple of years ago a bird festival took place here and was a success – we are all waiting for it coming back.
