Beijing Subway Introduces Electronic Tickets for Unlimited Rides

The Beijing Subway will start issuing electronic subway tickets effective from January, 20, this year. Tickets will let passengers make an unlimited number of rides within the time period specified.

Such tickets will cover the whole network of the Beijing’s metro except the lines heading to the airports. Tickets will be sold through Beijing Subway's official online payment platform, the Yitongxing application. There will be five types of electronic tickets available: day passes for one, two, three, five and seven days priced 20, 30, 40, 70 and 90 RMB respectively.

The representatives of Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said that new electronic tickets will help commuters who need to make several trips within a short period of time to save time on queuing for tickets at ticket booths. The new electronic tickets will complement the existing metered fare system used for subway rides. Now commuters usually either buy single-ride tickets or use rechargeable cards.

Currently, Beijing Subway system features 22 lines. These include 20 conventional track metro lines, one maglev line and one light rail line. The total length of all the lines is about 636.8 kilometres. The network covers 12 urban and suburban districts of Beijing. Totally there are 391 stations in Beijing Subway system.
