Currently, 60 air-spring coaches serve Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Paya, and Mandalay-Myitkyina lines. 39 of them are made in China and 21 are produced locally at the coach factory in Myitnge, Amarapura. Twelve new locomotives also come from China and six were built by Myanmar Railways in Nay Pyi Taw.
New air-spring trains will cover the almost 600 km route between Mandalay and Myitkyina in about 17 hours, one hour quicker than ordinary trains.
Totally, Myanmar Railways operate 32 lines, and the Mandalay-Myitkyina line is the second busiest after the country's most popular Yangon–Mandalay route. Over 10,000 passengers travel between these two destinations on a daily bases. From Mandalay, train to Myitkyina leaves at noon, and the return train departs from Myitkyina at 12.45pm. En route, trains stop at Shwebo, Kawlin, Nabar, Mohnyin and Mogaung.
