Flood Season Is Best Time to Visit Tràm Chim National Park

Tràm Chim National Park located in the reed fields of Dong Thap Province, Vietnam, is at its best during the flood season when its aquatic resources teem with water fowl – visit now or you'll have to wait till September.

The park is one of the seven Ramsar sites in Vietnam. It features a special-use forest with distinctive wetland ecosystems covering over 7.500 hectares. More than 230 species of aquatic birds regularly make their appearance in the park, 16 rare breeds among them, including Burmese Sarus crane first spotted there in 1986. Greater adjutant, black-headed ibis, black-faced spoonbill, and great-billed heron are some of other endangered spicies inhabiting the area. There is also a breeding area in the park where visitors can observe nests of some rare birds.

Besides rich aquatic life, the park boasts a great floral diversity. Pink lotus fields and bright green acacias attract huge flocks of white storks that are an amazingly beautiful sight during the flooding season. Tourism has just started developing in the area but is given high priority. Overnight tours in the park are available, and there is a variety of activities on offer – from fishing to bird-watching. It is possible to opt for a homestay while visiting the park instead of a hotel for a more authentic experience.
