Airport Shuttle Is No Longer Free, Water Taxi to Expand in Phnom Penh

The airport shuttle train from Phnom Penh International Airport to Phnom Penh Central railway station operated by Cambodia Royal Railways stopped its free rides. Now be ready to shell out USD2.5 for a ride.

The airport shuttle train, which did its inauguration trip on April, 11, this year, has been free of charge during the seven months following its launch. The promotion period lasted even longer than expected but it came to an end last month when the flat USD2.5 fare was imposed. The ride between the capital's main railway station and the airport takes about two hours and considering this fact the fare seems fair.

The shuttle train is still waiting for some new Mexican carriges to arrive after what the route will become fully operational with a total capacity of 100 passenger per ride, with both seats and stand up places counted.

Another piece of Phnom Penh transport-related news concerns the city's water taxi system which is expected to enhance connectivity with Kandal province in the south soon after some more stations in Kandal’s Saang and Kean Svay districts are added to the existing route.

Phnom Penh water taxi, also launched in April, offers free rides till the end of the year. Starting from January, 1, 2019, the fare will depend on the distance travelled and will fluctuate within USD0.25-USD2 range.
