It's Winter – Time to Head to Northern Luzon

Need ideas to spice your beach-packed Philippines itinerary? We've got something for you. Namely, caves, churches, hill tribes and river boat tours. Head to Northern Luzon to give a different twist to your journey.

Here are several detinations in the Northern Luzon worth checking in.

Isabela, the rice and corn granary of the Philippines, is also the place to visit some of the historical Roman Catholic churches. Have a look at the Our Lady of Pillar Parish Church in Cauayan City with its Baroque architecture or the St. Matthias Church in Tamauini town, built in 1707.

Kalinga province offers an insight into ingenious people's life. Locals wearing traditional costumes and mountainous cuisine await guests in the mountain village of Patiking, Tabuk City.
Cagayan is only two hours away from Kalinga so both are easily combined into one trip. It is widely believed that an image of the Lady preserved in its red brick Romanesque church dating back to 1610 possesses miraculous powers.

Tuguegarao City is home to the second longest bridge in the country.

Boat tours along Pinacanauan River in Peñablanca town, some 30 km from Tuguegarao City, are a great opportunity to admire the beauty of the majestic Sierra Madre, the longest mountain range in the country.

A 67 mln year old fossil was unearthed in Callao cave; besides there is a rare phenomenon which can be observed in one of its chambers with sunrays streaming down to the altar through a natural opening.

Finally, the San Jose Marine Reserve and Fish Sanctuary in Sitio Matara, San Jose, Gonzaga town is definitely not to be missed out. Snorkelling, boating, swimming, or climbing rock formations are some of the most popular pastimes here.
