Packages will include a variety of activities to engage in – from learning local wisdom to participating in a daily routine of the locals. While Phatthalung does have its star attraction – the so-called Thale Noi, a large lake and swamp area which is both a prime destination for bird-watching and for enjoying picturesque red lotuses in bloom, for many visitors it remains a mere stopover on the way to or from Malaysia.
Creative tourism packages will include sunrise boat rides, trying a hand in traditional yor yak fishing with giant fishing nets, a walk through the sago palm forest and learing to cook tradtional sago starch desserts and weaving traditional bamboo mats.
Sitting roughly 850 km south of Bangkok, Phatthalung can be reached via a 12-hour bus ride or a longer, 15-hour train journey. There is no airport in Phatthalung with the nearest air haven located in Trang, 70 km west, or Hat Yai, 100 km south.
