The using of seat belts in Thailand might be compulsory

Deputy Transport Minister of Thailand, Pong Chewananth, reported that new law forcing passengers to use seat belts in public vans and inter-provincial buses might come into a force up to the end of this year.

Deputy Transport Minister of Thailand, Pong Chewananth, reported that new law forcing passengers to use seat belts in public vans and inter-provincial buses might come into a force up to the end of this year. Now it is under consideration by Cabinet. According to new law violators will be fined up to 5,000 baht.

It was provoked by the increased number of fatalities in road accidents because of passengers didn’t buckle up. Up to half of the victims didn’t use the seat belts.

In addition to the law The Transport Co was recommended to act as a role model to the other private operators and to raise awareness about the use of seat belts among passengers.
